Declutter Your Home, Declutter Your Life
When was the last time you decluttered your home?
We’re willing to bet our bottom dollar that it was some time ago, and yet how great would it feel to have your home free of clutter? The answer to that question is…fantastic! There’s nothing worse than having to sift through old boxes of this and old bottles of that to find what you are looking for at the back of the cupboard.
With the new year underway there really isn’t a better time to declutter your home, and we have a host of organising tips to help you in doing just that. Everyone has resolutions they set themselves at the start of the new year, but we rarely stick to them. With our help and guidance, you will be able to make a resolution to have a tidy, clutter-free home, and stick to it!
Tips to follow in order to declutter your home
1. Firstly, you can sort through the items that are around you. Do you like that glass ornament on the mantelpiece? No? Then it is clutter and you need to get rid of it. Only keep items that you feel you want to display in your home, the rest is just junk and you don’t need it.
As you sort through the effects dotted around the house, you’ll notice the space looks less cluttered. Great! But you aren’t done yet! You are on the way to a more ordered, comfortable home. Gather together some cardboard boxes, bin-bags and tape, you’ll need these for the next step.
2. Organise all of your belongings into categories. This means you’ll have a handle on what you need to keep, what you might be able to give away or donate to a good cause, what you might be able to sell and items that can be recycled.
Once you’ve completed that step you’ll find that you’ve decreased the clutter greatly, but there’s still a little more to do.
3. Once you have categorised all the objects you should go from room-to-room, one at a time, and go through each box, drawer and shelf.Try and sort the items in these areas into the boxes you have categorised as above. The items will soon start to deplete as you realise you don’t need those old, spent batteries and the keys to locks you no longer own!
4. Next, try and group items with a similar function together. So take all of your cosmetics that are sitting round in the bathroom and go through them. Do you use them all? If not you can remove them – you don’t use them so they are useless!
Conclusion: When you are decluttering andorganising your home, try and think this way – don’t be throwing items away just for the sake of it. Think about whether they are things you really need. If they are, then keep them. You should use this exercise as a way of giving you the time to consider what items are necessary and what aren’t, and you can live a more simple lifestyle - that way you’ll have a calm, clutter-free home!
